Monthly Conversations on Abolition: Abolition and ICE Detention

Due to technical issues, we do not have a video recording of the August 2026 abolition conversation. Please check out these resources and action items provided by the Texas UU Justice Ministry.

QUICK CLICK: Sign up for Texas UU Justice Ministry emails so you can get more involved as you are able

WRITE: Write a letter to the editor calling for abolition! Don’t worry about being perfect or having “all the facts” (there’s no such thing!) The best letters are heartfelt and personal. Tell why abolition matters to you and send it to your local (or national) newspaper. The powers that be still read letters and they matter for public opinion!

GO IN PERSON: Can you answer the call to go to Springfield, Ohio, this week (August 26-30, 2026)?  Read more info and register directly with the effort ASAP and  let us know for the UU contingent on this indication of your interest form

SING: Learn the “Songs in the Key of Resistance” and bring them to your congregation or community!

CALL: Call to demand the release of Haitian Pastors caged by ICE.

CALL SCRIPT: My name is (insert your name and any affiliation). I am calling to urge you to intervene immediately in the detention of Rev. Adrien and Rev. Dumano two Haitian pastors from Springfield, Ohio, and to do all you can, both privately and publicly, to facilitate their release. These two pastors are significant peacemakers and provide critical support for the Haitian community in this time of trauma and uncertainty. These pastors have been removed from the community and we demand that they be returned and provided due process.

  • Gov. Dewine 614-644-4357 (When you call this number, you can start by thanking the Governor for his support of the Haitian community.)
